Thanks Joel you gave me lots to think about.
Hey Joel,
Thanks for the insights you shared. Obviously when we hear you mention content-based membership sites don’t maintain continuity, we get nervous.
After all that is what many membership sites are based on…and the goo-rue courses teach that too too. One in fact by a well known goo-rue type talks about creating membership sites that have defined start and stop points.
Maybe that will work, but having a service no one wants to get rid of sounds even better. I like the idea of integrating a service-based membership site with additional content to keep them coming back.
Great insight. I’m not saying there is not room for content only membership sites, it’s just a fact that they don’t retain membership over a long period. Doing time released content can improve it. I know people that have content sites that get up to and 11 month retention…..they are DANG good sites but for the most part the average is still 3 or less.
Hey Joel, Nice Video, Great Idea, I believe if I had put an E-book type product in front of my Service 2 years ago I would have done better quicker, with less effort on my Teams part. So I am going to do the E-book now and see what happens. May even turn it into a membership site with my Services being the physical part of the equation.
Hi Joel.
). We could be telling them all they long what to do but we can’t force them to do it.. Now as a marketer i think that the necessary step to increase the retention rate in continuity sites is to “walk with them” in their own projects.. That’s what people whant.. We don’t go take private lessons to ear the teacher speak, we go there to have him work with us in our own exercises…That’s what i think.
Thank you for the video. I’m in the process in creating one membership site. Here’s what i think that it is wrong with memberships sites: when releasing a membership site i see too many marketers just releasing videos or articles or weekly seminars.. And in my opinion the problem with that is that people are lazy, they don’t do what we teach them. So they quit.(guilty as charged
Hi Joel, great video! I think the best product you could ever create are products that are in the biggest and most competitive markets where people are very passionate and spend a lot of dollars on. Here are some examples:
Golf guides
Weight loss guides
real estate guides
internet marketing guides
forex guides
Hi Joel
What’s going on today? I’ve read your Ultimate and I find it interesting too. Now I’m concerned about my website listed above,I see where I’m generating traffic but also I only see that about 122 clicks been added and about $120 added. Now as an Affiliate earning commission on this site is it per-click or per order? Could you please help me in this area?
I halfway agree about “membership site problems.” Creating content *every week* is a chore, and quality drops off rapidly. I would rather see high quality product every _month_ than low quality every week.
Successful paper magazines offer that model, and it’s not a fluke. People pay for content, unless it’s a “fluff” magazine, like a romance one. The only industry more formula than romance, is porn. The other side is if you ask more than about $10/mo, it better be something people want badly. If it’s trivial, $5-9/mo, it can be reasonably useful material. The really high quality membership sites are $100-200/month, and offer high quality material.
Yes, I agree with you. Also as an affiliate it is better to promote products with residual income. Aweber has this for affiliates.
Combining the “ideal product”
with team of affiliates and paying them for as long as the client remains a client is a winning formula. Smart people leverage affiliates by treating them well.
Great video and great advice, as usual, Joel!
I’ve actually got a membership site I will be launching soon that gives out specific numbers and data for a very fine-tuned niche.
Believe it or not, it has very little content, but it will be a business model where members will expect an email and/or text message from us that will help them make money on an ongoing basis.
It has nothing to do with stock or Forex picks, but it is very similar in structure.
Wish I could tell you more, but I’d hate to spill the beans before the big launch.
I’ll let you know more about it and how we’re doing once it goes public.
By the way, once the members join, it will cause some emotional pain to get out, because they know that the next weekly email they receive could have been their ticket out of the rat race.
Some advice to anyone wishing to create a membership site with a very low cancel rate…
make it emotionally painful for them to cancel the subscription.
Remember, people buy on emotion… find something that feeds that emotional fire over and over again and you may just have a winner.
Just my two cents.
Thanks again Joel… you’ve got a great blog, by the way… very seldom do I miss reading your stuff or watching your videos. Very informative!
Joel,
Good insights and I agree. As I commented yesterday, I still think software is one of the best products to create. Monthly subscription based usage of that software is the ultimate.
Many people don’t like the monthly subscription model, but I see it all the time where people will gladly pay if the time savings warrants it.
People serious about their business know that a couple of hours saved may be better spent on other projects that potentially will make you more money. I personally hate doing menial tasks that a piece of software would do for me, so see it as a good investment.
PS- Keyword Rockstar is an awesome piece of software. I’ll be looking into that when I have the funds.
Take care and thanks for the excellent content. Patrick
This was a great support for me as I keep saying I am going to create a product! Thanks for the reinforcement!

Interesting. A few good ideas also. Tks for sharing them.
I agree it´s difficult to keep peoples attention for long. I guess we are obliged to keep innovating on one side and looking for new members on the other.
Feedback is a must.
I’m looking forward for the Webinar tomorrow. Bye.
