How I’m Doing – And A BIG Thank You

by Joel on May 10, 2010

A few of you have heard that I’ve been in the hospital and I can now confirm the “Rumor”

Yes I’ve been in the Hospital since April 28th…

And Yes I almost DIED!

The good news is things are looking on the up and up and I expect to be home in a few days.

For those that are curious to know what the heck happened to me I’ll give you a quick synopsis.

April 23-24th – Finished up a successful bootcamp with 12 wonderful people who came in from all over the world.

April 26  - Thought I’d relax and take the day off.  That afternoon I started having a stomache ache.  I had been getting these about twice a month.

April 28th – Stomach Ache still going on and getting BAD!  Had my wife take me to the ER at 4am.

- Docs find a bowel obstruction and then it clears a few hours later.

April 29th – Docs do Surgery to repair a hernia which is “probably” causing the obstruction.

May 1st – Thinking everything is ok and getting ready to come home the next day start feeling sick again.

May 2nd – All “HECK” breaks loose and I’m in the worst pain I’ve ever been in my life.  Docs rush me into emergency surgery and open me up like a fish and find the “REAL PROBLEM” – Not to get gross or anything but some stuff had “Died and Popped” in my insides!  Surgery was 3 hours and they fixed me all up!

May 10th – Feeling great and hope to go home in a few days.  :)

I wanted to give a big thanks to all of you that have called, visited, sent cards and emails.  I want to thank my wife and my 5 kids who have been instrumental to my recovery.

Thank you for all the prayers on my behalf.  I know this IS the reason I am here today!

I plan to be here on this earth for many many more years!

Take care,

Joel

Joel,
I’ve been following you for a while now and I’ve found your blog is really, really helpful for people who are venturing into IM. I want to thank you for everything you are sharing here in your blog.
I hadn’t checked it in a couple of weeks, and now that I did, I read about your unplanned trip to the hospital. I’m glad everything’s OK now and I pray for your complete recovery.
Have a good trip back home.
Cheer up,
Jorge R.

I was talking to Darryll Gilliland yesterday and he told me a little about your experience. I must have missed this post! I’m sorry to hear about what happened and I pray for your future health.
